Brief Program Description:
Through media arts education, Wide Angle Youth Media cultivates and amplifies the voices of Baltimore youth to engage audiences across generational, cultural, and social divides. Our programs inspire creativity and instill confidence in young people, empowering them with skills to navigate school, career, and life. Since 2000, Wide Angle Youth Media has worked with over 6,180 youth from across Baltimore City who have produced hundreds of digital media projects about their lives and communities.

Wide Angle Youth Media’s Community Voices program teaches young people how to make compelling photographs and tell stories of their experiences. Through free photography workshops throughout the community, the program provides technical training and media production to over 130 students each year.

Baltimore Speaks Out (BSO) is a 8-week after school program, teaching young people aged 10 to 15 digital media production, critical thinking, public speaking, team- building, and leadership skills. BSO operates each fall, winter and spring in partnership with the Enoch Pratt Free Library.

At the end of each session, students in the BSO program create videos about youth and community concerns that are screened locally and around the world!

Through regular attendance, students are eligible to earn service learning hours for their participation. Recent videos produced by BSO youth have addressed bullying in school, healthy eating, education reform, and taking care of the environment.
